Why did you become a therapist?
I became a therapist after serving 4 years in the Navy. During my adolescence and military career, I developed a passion for helping others, particularly adolescents and those struggling with substance abuse. When the time came for my master’s degree, I chose a Marriage and Family Therapy program that also allowed me to obtain a Drug and Alcohol Certification. From there, I have worked in group homes, foster homes, and residential treatment centers centered around working with adolescents and their families. I became the program director for a residential treatment center 20 years ago and about 15 years ago shifted from direct client care to becoming a supervisor training other therapists in mental health counseling and addiction work. For the past 10 years, I have worked in private practice settings allowing me to work more in depth with adults and couple systems which has grown my passion for working with trauma/PTSD as well as couple’s conflicts and infidelity.
What type of clients are you most excited to work with?
I enjoy working with adult individuals and couples. My specialty areas are trauma/PTSD and relational counselling.
